South Pars to Feed Petrochemical Plants

MAHSHAHR – Increased gas output in the giant South Pars Gas Field will help supply the necessary feedstock to petrochemical plants active in Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Zone, caretaker oil minister, Mohammad Ali-Abadi, has announced.

During his recent visit to the petrochemical zone, Ali-Abadi said South Pars needs to boost its gas production in order to make up for any shortage in feedstocks.
The petrochemical zone sprawls on nearly 2,600 ha of land in the southern province of Khuzestan. Petrochemical plants and downstream industrial projects abound there.
In the meantime, 1,500 ha of land in the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone has been allocated to investment in downstream petrochemical sector.
Pars zone accounted for 16 million tons of petrochemical production, out of a total of 40 million tons, last year.
Assaluyeh can now offer more than 22 million tons of petrochemical products. New units are expected to operate in the current year and bring the figure to 30 million tons.
